Who organizes the Nutty Runner 5K?

The Spark Foundation organizes and produces the annual Nutty Runner 5K. Spark is a nonprofit organization that strives to create a positive impact in the community by providing increased access to health and fitness education and opportunities. In addition to our annual race series, the Spark Foundation supports running clubs in local schools through coaching, curriculum, and healthy snacks. The Spark Foundation supports pioneering projects around health and fitness through its keystone fund with Fayetteville Public Education Foundation as well as mini-grants for area schools and clubs. When you run, remember that you are helping NWA to build the habits for an active, healthy lifestyle. Thank you!

What’s the difference between Nutty Runner and Designated Driver divisions?

The “Nutty Runner” division is open to runners ages 21+. It includes three beers along the course and one beer at the finish line festival. The “Designated Driver” division is open to runners of all ages and does not include any beer during or after the race. Additional beer may be purchased by runners and spectators 21+ at the Columbus House Brewery Beer Garden.

Is there Nutty Runner merchandise available for purchase?

I am a very slow runner/walker. Will I feel out of place?

You won’t feel out of place at all! Our races are planned for participants of all ages, paces, and abilities. We have runners, walkers, sippers, chuggers, sprinters, strollers, striders, skippers, and more!

Will I be able to receive a refund or transfer my race registration if I’m unable to participate in the Nutty Runner 5K? What about if the race is postponed or canceled?

We follow the standard running industry policy and do not offer any refunds.

Are there any training groups?

If you are looking for adult running groups in the area, we highly recommend Ozark Trail Running Club, The Mustache Running Club, and, of course, Columbus House Brewery Running Club.

Will there be pace groups at this race?

We will not have pace groups for the 5K.

Will the course have a “sweeper”?

Yes, we will have a cyclist making sure that everyone stays safe and finishes.

Can I wear headphones?

Yes, but we ask that you keep the volume down at a safe level so that you can hear other runners or instructions from event personnel.

Can I bring my dog or run with a stroller?

Of course! Trained, well-behaved pups are welcome. Just be sure to keep your furry friends on a non-retractable leash of 5 feet or less and that you bring appropriate supplies to clean up after them. We also ask that anyone running with dogs or strollers start near the back of the pack for the safety of all runners.

Are there bathrooms on the course?

There will be an ample amount of port-a-potties at the start/finish lines. Additionally, there will be a port-a-potty at each beer stop (about every mile).

Will there be age group awards?

Yes, we will have results and awards for all top age group finishers. We follow standard 5-year age groups. Check out past examples of the beautiful mash paddles from Ozark BeesNuts on our Instagram!

When and where should I pick up my race packet?

Packet Pickup will be held on Friday, March 13 at Columbus House Brewery (701 W. North St.) from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. We will also have same-day packet pickup at Race HQ (124 W. Mountain St.) from 9:00 - 10:45 am on Saturday, March 14 just before the race. All runners: please be prepared to show your state-issued ID or passport. You will not be able to run without it.

Can someone else pick up my packet for me?

Yes, in order for someone else can pick up your packet for you, they must show proof of your race registration. However, you will still need to check in on race day with your state-issued ID or passport.

Does the race have a gear-check?

Yes, we will have gear-check for the 2020 Nutty Runner 5K.

Where should I park the day of the race?

We strongly encouraged everyone to run, walk, bike, or rideshare to the race!

Please welcome Fayetteville Town Center as our 2020 Parking Sponsor. They have offered their garage for FREE for runners. There is additional free, city parking in the vicinity. Please DO NOT PARK on the Fayetteville Square -- leave these spots for patrons of the awesome merchants!

I’m traveling from out of town for the race. Where should I stay?

The Fayetteville Visitor’s Bureau, Experience Fayetteville, has great information on area hotels. We also highly recommend Graduate Fayetteville, who we partner with for our other events.

If I registered to run this year and then find out I can’t run this year, can I transfer my registration to next year?

No, race registrations may not be transferred to future Spark Foundation races.

Is the course USATF certified?

No, the course is not USATF certified.

What kind of course support do you offer?

There are two cheer/water/aid stations along the course that also serve as the beer stops.

Can my family and friends meet me at the finish line?

We encourage family and friends to join you for race day as well as festivities and awards post-race.

What happens if it’s raining on the day of the race?

The Nutty Runner 5K will be held rain or shine. In the event of extreme weather (i.e. lightning), we will make the safest decision regarding delay or cancellation. Please note that the race registration fee is nonrefundable even if the race is modified or canceled. For any further questions, please contact the race director at

Can I sign up on the day of the race?

There is no race day registration. The last opportunity to sign-up will be at Packet Pick-up the day before. We wish we were able to accommodate last minute requests, but as the race grows, it is important that we have everyone’s information in advance in order to provide the best possible experience and goodies for all runners.
